Infrared Flat Roof Surveys Can Save Companies Millions in Roof Maintenance Costs

November 12, 2009 Greensboro, NC – United Infrared, Inc. (UI) announces the launch of its newest application module, RoofScanIR™. RoofScanIR™ is a network of infrared thermographers who provide on-roof infrared roof moisture surveys of flat roofs. United Infrared is the largest network of multi-disciplined infrared thermographers in the world.

Infrared imaging is a proven method for determining moisture problems in commercial roofs. Many roofs require replacement before the end of their design life because subsurface moisture intrusion allows the roof insulation to become wet, which results in deterioration of the roof’s substrate. A qualitative infrared roof moisture survey can identify and document moisture problems before the roof fails. This enables the owner’s roofing professional to make informed decisions regarding actions that can be taken to correct the problem areas without the expense of replacing the entire roof. With the average useful life of a typical commercial or industrial roof being more or less seven years, regular inspections and a proper roof maintenance program including moisture surveys are required to properly maintain the roof. Since the life of the roof can be increased by as much as 300%, the savings for each roof can be tens of thousands of dollars to the roof owner.

United Infrared, Inc. has partnered with Hixson Consultants, Inc. (www.bedocs.com), an applied technical resource consulting company to provide technical direction. HCI’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Ben T. Hixson will be providing training and technical support to all of the RoofScanIR™ member contractors. Mr. Hixson, a roofing, wall systems and waterproofing expert, has over 33 years of experience in roof, wall and waterproofing condition analysis, life-cycle cost analysis and budgeting. Other areas of his expertise include design specification writing, CAD detailing management, component selection and design of systems to remedy building moisture problems. Mr. Hixson has named Mike Ray and Tyler Hixson, two skilled staff members as Assistants to the Director.

Mr. Hixson and his technical assistants will be teaching the training classes at various locations around the US, and consulting with RoofScanIR™ thermographers through the InterpretIR.com Network (www.interpretir.com). This service will allow RoofScanIR™ thermographers to send the roof images to the technical specialists. “Most roof jobs are straightforward, but for projects where the thermographers need expert help interpreting the imagery, IntrepretIR™ will move the information quickly to our roofing experts to review”, states Peter Hopkins, Vice President and Managing Partner of United Infrared, Inc.

"The beauty of RoofScanIR™ is that the methodologies, the quality control and the reports are all standardized,” states Greg Stockton, President of United Infrared, Inc. “This means a national company has one point of contact, one standard price, and will receive a high-quality survey and report…on any one of their building roofs, anywhere in the USA”, he concludes.
